Stretching in sports is a controversial subject that I know very little about. For some time it was seen to have no effect, but that is clearly not the case, as you'll see the results it does in gymnastics or at the circus.
According to my triathlon book (TRI - Torbjørn Sindballe), the muscles themselves doesn't change when stretching, but the pain tolerance of the tissue itself changes, making it possible to increase the stretch. A tight muscle will also react to stretching by loosening up, thus I feel this could be important as an injury prevention activity.
I'm not willing to get more technical than that, but my main point is that there are benefits to stretching, and if it's combined with yoga, the core can be worked on as well. This is why I have decided to try doing yoga as many times I can every week.
My knowledge of yoga is close to zero, so I'm very happy to have access to such a great resource as YouTube for free. The site is stacked with yoga videos in any difficulty and with exercises designed depending on what sport you are doing.
This is the yoga video I have followed the two last days. If you have any good videos you can recommend, please do, I would love some variety.
