Another great weekend completed, but not a lot physical activity done, except dancing of course!
We went to the wedding of two awesome friends, but since I had the role of toastmaster and Amalie had the role of videographer I ended up with no pictures. So here is a shot from our time in Norway this summer, probably one of my favorite shots of this year. But that might just be because it’s my fiancé in the photo 😂😁

Six months ago we were driving around in a camper van and enjoying life in Australia 🇦🇺. It’s a strong contrast from a free life on the road to daily structured life. Both have their positive and negative sides, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to go back!

Having finally figured out what to do with the achilles I’m finally back to running faster paced runs again. I’m so far away from where I was during spring, but I should be able to get back into shape soon.
Today I had 2k warm up followed by 5k of 4:05 pace, with a 1.5k cool down. Great session, but two tempo sessions in a row means I’m getting a bit tired. Might be a slower day tomorrow! To follow my workouts, check me out on Strava: Lars Ivar Henriksen 🏃🏻‍♂️💨

It’s was again time to give blood. I usually do this every month, but because of summer vacation and sickness I haven’t been able to do it this summer. If you have the chance to do so I would encourage you to do the same. Right now the need for blood is extremely high!

Today’s activity was a bachelor party for the awesome @caspermunk 😁 what a great day!!
I’m so happy right now!! I woke up with relatively little soreness in both my achilles tendons this morning. I celebrated that with a 15 minute warm up and a 4k with @amalieslandersen afterwards. I love seeing progress 😁

A lot of work and a bad achilles has made it difficult to run lately. This has shown me a lot about recovering from an injury that I haven’t experienced before.
This morning was my first quicker run (4:00 pace) where I actually think the ramifications won’t be too bad! An achilles injury is very easy to monitor as stiffness the two mornings after a run tells you exactly how bad your previous session was. So it all depends on what I notice tomorrow. Do you struggle with your achilles?

Running shoes are a huge part of my professional life and I have grown to love that they all come in different colors and sizes. What I have learned during this last year is that there is one common misconception by athletes and especially casual runners. THERE ISN’T JUST ONE SHOE FOR YOU! Chances are that there are 5-10 running shoes that would fit your foot, and if you alternated between several pairs you would realize that your favorite shoe would change every other week.
People who have run in one model the last 10 years (brand religion) tend to have a much greater chance of getting injuries purely from not taking care of their feet. Stop thinking that there is only one shoe for you, and give your body some variety.

Do you like to run? It’s seems like running is all I want to do nowadays, and that sucks when I have injuries. I have though been able to find a way to get a run in and combined with exercises and the correct footwear it might be a way towards success. 🤞🏻

This is my most important exercise right now. My achilles is not doing so good, so I need to do leg extensions several times a day.
This mornings run started very slow in order to warm up the achilles properly before I ended up in a nice 4:05-4:15 pace for 7k.
Today is going to be the warmest day of the year with a possible 35C! 😳☀️have a great day!!

Sore muscles after the race

It's been a while since I've gone all out in a race, and my muscles are feeling the ramifications of it all today. As an athlete I'm used to always having some kind of pain at all times. If it isn't an injury then it sure is some kind of soreness from working out too hard. Waking up with pains is just a normal day.

The last years have not been like that. I have enjoyed doing something completely different. My body has been recovering and I mostly don't feel too much pain anymore. But yesterday and today have me reminiscing of my previous life as a athlete.

My ankles, calf, thighs and back are screaming for rest, and the most I am willing to give them is a shorter restitution run later in the nice weather and maybe a yoga session to loosen up a bit. It's so hard to get out when the body screams at you in that way, but what I found out is that, the body often says it needs more time off than would actually benefit it.

So if you're sore and lack the motivation to run, try to do it anyway just so that you get your body going again.
